Stepping Forward - While Looking Back 24-hour walking challenge In the footsteps of our rescues for World Elephant Day 2020

The Challenge

On World Elephant Day this year, we want to honour all the elephants that have made us who we are. In these precarious times, we are undertaking a fundraising challenge to help the project survive and be able to continue taking steps forward for elephant welfare and conservation, while at the same time taking a little trip down memory lane and looking back at all we have done and accomplished.

On 12th August, join us for a 24-hour walking challenge as we attempt to walk in the footsteps that all our elephants took to reach retirement here at the EVP; starting from the closest to the farthest. From our gentle matriarch Ning Wan, who walked 10 kms, to our end goal of 370 kms, which was the distance our most famous elephant Sambo took to get here from Phnom Penh! If we smash our target, any additional km we do will be walked in memory of all the past elephants who resided at the EVP. A hefty goal!!

Join Us

The best part is that you can join us! As a fundraising push for the elephants, we challenge you to grab your pedometers and walk/run on your treadmill or in your neighbourhood (please follow your local social distancing guidelines) during the 24 hour challenge, pledge any amount, let us know how many kms you covered and then donate! Get your family and friends to sponsor you or let them in on the challenge!

On The Day

To follow the challenge we will be live streaming from our base at our Hefalump Cafe in Sen Monorom. Elephant Hill Resort in Sen Monorom has kindly sponsored 2 treadmills that will be placed at the cafe where all EVP staff members and friends of EVP will be taking on the 24 hour challenge from 12 noon on Aug 12th to 12 noon on Aug 13th (Cambodia time).

As we move throughout the day, and reach the kms of each elephant’s walk to retirement, we will be launching a little recap video of each elephant’s time here at EVP.

So join us on the day, follow our progress, watch the ele videos, send words of encouragement, donate, share the word, get your friends and family to sponsor you to join the challenge.

Thanks from the EVP team
